Compulsory Earthquake Insurance covers earthquakes and the risks that may arise due to earthquakes.

Compulsory Earthquake Insurance by the Turkish Natural Catastrophe Insurance Pool (TCIP) provides coverage against earthquakes and all other associated risks, such as fires, explosions, tsunamis or landslides.

Buildings covered by the policy

Pursuant to the Catastrophe Insurance Law No. 6305:

  • Buildings with registered title deeds that are constructed as dwellings on privately-owned real properties
  • Independent sections within the scope of the Condominium Law No. 634
  • Independent sections in residential buildings which are used as business establishments, offices, and for any other similar purposes
  • Compulsory Earthquake Insurance is mandatory for dwellings built by the state.

The Compulsory Earthquake Insurance premium is calculated according to the seismic zone, structure, gross floor area and the year the building is constructed. Material damages, including those on the foundations, main walls, party walls separating independent units, ceilings and floors, stairs, landings, corridors, roofs and chimneys, caused directly by earthquakes are covered up to the insurance benefit amount.
